Introduction
You’ve seen it a million times.
You go to an audition and someone performs a monologue
that is outdated, inappropriate, or so cheesy that it’s
not relatable. If you’ve ever found yourself asking,
“Where are all the good monologues?” you’re not alone.
That’s what we said! After searching and coming up empty
handed, we began writing our own monologues. Years
later, at the request of many desperate parents and
frustrated talent agents, we compiled some of our
favorites in Words on a Page.
Words on a Page is for the serious child actor looking
to “wow” their audience with relatable, current, and
interesting monologues. Whether you are five years old
or eighteen years old, there are monologues in this book
that will help you grow as an actor and develop your
performance. Words on a Page features monologues of
different lengths and subject matter with both male and
female focus. Each one has been thoroughly tested by
young actors and used for every type of audition, from
theatre to film.
Every aspect of this book is designed to be easy to use.
Each section includes a wide range of monologues as well
as tips for honing your skill. Take the time to read
through every monologue in the section before making
your selection to be sure you choose the perfect fit.
Longer monologues are laid out on facing pages to
minimize page turning and make them easier to copy. Each
line ends on a full word to help you find your place
more easily. Monologues for younger children are in a
larger font with more generous spacing to make the
material easier to read. Subtle emphasis and directions
are marked to help you bring each monologue to life, but
we’ve left plenty of room for you to visualize each
scenario and develop the personality of each character.
We encourage you to make these monologues more than just
words on a page. You are an actor. Show them what you
can do! Inside this book are the materials to help you
do it.
